Denmark – a first-mover in commissioning and decommissioning
As a first mover in the wind power industry, Denmark has positioned itself as a global wind power hub. Denmark is home to the world’s first offshore wind farm, which was erected in 1991 and many others followed. As the expected lifespan of a wind mill is 20 years, the first offshore wind farms will be phased out over the coming years as they get uneconomical to maintain.
Replacement of onshore turbines
A necessity for the continued development of wind power in is that the turbines become more efficient. Onshore in Denmark, large, modern turbines will soon start replacing the small, existing turbines, which means that the total number of onshore turbines will be reduced from 5,000 to approx. 3,400 by 2020.
