Green milestone: Denmark opens its largest onshore wind farm
Behind the ambitious project is renewable energy developer Eurowind Energy A/S, which is equally owned by energy and telecom company Norlys and the Eurowind Energy founders. Already back in 2011, the company laid the first building block for Thorup-Sletten. After nine years of close collaboration, the park is now up and running.
The inauguration of Thorup-Sletten wind farm is very exciting news for the Danish Minister of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, Simon Kollerup:
"Thorup-Sletten Wind Farm is an excellent example of how Denmark has a leading position in green energy. It makes me really proud, both as Minister and as a native of the region, that Northern Jutland can now boast of having Denmark's largest onshore wind farm. The government has set an ambitious goal of reducing our CO2 emissions by 70 per cent [by 2030 compared to 1990 levels]. Together with the business community, we are working hard to make that ambition a reality. That is why I am also thrilled that we are reaching a new green milestone today.”

The 18 new Siemens-Gamesa wind turbines are evenly distributed between the two municipalities and have a total effect of approx. 77 MW. Each turbine has an effect of 4.3 MW and a total height of almost 150 metres. The wind farm will produce 262 GWh of green electricity per year, corresponding to the electricity consumption of 65,000 households and it is expected to supply green electricity for at least 25 years.
CEO of Eurowind Energy, Jens Rasmussen is also proud of the new wind farm's contribution to Denmark’s green transition:
“With the inauguration of Thorup-Sletten, our total wind and solar portfolio will reach an annual electricity production of almost 1,000 GWh, which corresponds to the yearly electricity consumption of 250,000 households. Of course, it makes us proud that Eurowind this way contributes significantly to Denmark's green transition and the ambition for a more climate-friendly Denmark,” said Jens Rasmussen.
