The province of Savannakhet in the south of Laos is flanked between Thailand and Vietnam. This means it has real potential to act as an economic east-west corridor for the region. To unlock this potential, the local authorities, financed by the Asian Development Bank, aim to upgrade existing infrastructure and thereby improve the economic, environmental and living conditions for its people.

Providing training and support

Grontmij has been appointed to help Savannakhet’s ‘Provincial Department of Public Works and Transport’ build up local knowledge and expertise and conduct project management for various water and road infrastructure projects. These include the establishment and upgrading of a sewage water treatment facility and a modern waste-disposal site, the reinforcement of the Mekong riverbank with market and recreational areas and the expansion of town and village roads including a new bridge. At a later stage, Grontmij is also expected to be responsible for the engineering work on these sub-projects.

As one of the leading European water experts, Grontmij has unique capabilities to service the full water value chain, from flood protection to improving the quality of drinking water. The consulting & engineering company brings specialist knowledge from its centers of water expertise, tailored to local market and client needs.
