State of New Jersey selects Ramboll to be Offshore Wind Strategic Plan Partner

Ramboll will team with key New Jersey players to help the State secure a leadership role in the developing US offshore wind market.

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJ BPU) has selected Ramboll to coordinate and facilitate the development of the State’s Offshore Wind (OSW) Strategic Plan, as called for under Governor Murphy’s Executive Order No. 8, which will guide the development of this renewable energy source in the State.

The US offshore wind market is expected to grow from 30 megawatts (MW) in 2018 to more than 14 gigawatts (GW) in the next ten years. New Jersey has initially committed to 3,500 MW of offshore wind, the most ambitious goal in the US. Centrally positioned along the US East Coast, the State is a potentially attractive location for offshore wind manufacturers and suppliers.

Ramboll has been leading the wind energy industry since it began in Denmark in 1986 and developed across Europe and into the US. In fact, nearly two-thirds of the offshore wind turbine foundations and many of the platforms operating across the world today were designed by Ramboll. Many lessons have been learned from Europe that can be applied to the US market, but only with a strong understanding of the local environment, and the energy generation and usage markets.
