Explore the CCUS Summit 2024

Attendees will be able to engage with technological advancements, key learnings, societal impact, and innovation needs in Denmark and internationally. The summit will feature a lineup of speakers from across the value chain, including representatives from leading CCUS nations such as Norway, Canada, and the United States.

Denmark is blessed with an underground that has previously been exploited for oil and gas. With the government putting an end to the extraction, and optimal conditions for storing CO2 in the same oil and gas fields, the way has been paved for carbon capture and storage (CCS).

About the delegation tour

CO2VISION and INNO-CCUS invite you to explore Denmark’s CCUS ecosystem. With experience in all corners of the CCUS value chain; from highly efficient combined heat and power plants, waste-to-energy facilities, and an energy-efficient industry, to a strong transport sector, district heating grids for utilisation of excess heat, and cutting-edge technology providers.

The CCUS Study Tour includes site visits across Denmark and the opportunity for attendance at the Danish CCUS Summit conference (tickets not included. Read more about attendance at the conference here).

Morning: Introduction to CCUS Developments in Denmark

A series of introductions to the Danish green transition, state of regulatory affairs within
CCUS in Denmark as well as updates on offshore CO2 storage projects in Denmark.

Midday: Lunch

Afternoon: Waste-to-Energy Plant with Carbon Capture Technology

Visit Denmark’s newest and cleanest combined heat and power waste-to-energy plant located close to the city center. It has successfully realised an ambitious vision of combining a green waste-to-energy plant with a recreational area.

Afternoon: Free Time & Transportation from Copenhagen to Aalborg

Morning: Role of ports in CCUS and methanol production

Tour of Port of Aalborg where you will gain insights into the role of ports in CCUS and Project NORNE, visit a methanol fuel cells manufacturer, Blue World Technology, and get an introduction to the port’s symbiosis test area, which includes a pilot methanol production facility.

Afternoon: Carbon capture project at cement production facility

See carbon capture technology in action at the cement production facility, Aalborg Portland, counting Project ConsenCUS and Project GreenCEM. Aalborg Portland provides 30% of the city of Aalborg’s district heating needs through the utilisation of its surplus heat as well as district cooling from chalk pit
water reservoir.

Afternoon: Decarbonisation of Coal-Fired Combined Heat-and-Power Plant and SAF production

Learn about the 2028 decarbonisation plans of the coal-fired a power plant, which includes out-phasing of coal, the utilisation of surplus heat from Aalborg Portland and the waste incineration plant, Nordværk, as well as the world largest sea water heat pumps. The tour also includes an introduction to a future project, Fjord PtX, which will utilise CO2 from Nordværk to produce methanol for e-SAF, and business park, Norbis Park.
