The Climate City has been selected for the International Architecture Biennale in 2016
The theme of the Danish pavilion at the Biennale in 2016 is new Danish humanism. The ambition is to create a sensual wonder-room displaying an abundance of Danish architecture projects and models, which have all been created with people in focus.
The Climate City in Middelfart is one of Denmark’s largest demonstration projects of urban development through climate adaptation. At the Biennale, the project will contribute with, among other things, the story of how value can be created across disciplines, administrations and organisations. And not least, the cadastral boundaries between the landowners who get water in their cellars when there is torrential rain, and those who do not. The Climate City project can help to show how a mutual problem of flooding can be addressed jointly through close and continuous dialogue between the municipality, the wastewater company and citizens on the development of the city they live in.
The Climate Harbour (KlimaHavnen) in Middelfart is also included
The Climate City is part of the Municipality of Middelfart’s strategic platform The Climate Laboratory (Klimalaboratoriet) under the focus area “Sustainable Cities”, where there is work on value creation in the tension field between urban development and climate change adaptation. The Climate City’s future sister project, The Climate Harbour, which is also part of The Climate Laboratory in Middelfart, has also been selected for the Architecture Biennale in Venice in 2016. The Climate Harbour project, which is expected to be processed politically in early 2016, provides a strategic vision of how to deal with rising sea water and increased amounts of storm water in the central city centre and along the waterfront.
