Gaining new ground in offshore wind

With a reputation for reliability and quality in the offshore wind market, supported by an established position in the offshore oil and gas market Semco Maritime is now fast becoming a vital player in offshore wind market.

Two substation platforms currently under construction at Bladt Industries in Aalborg, Denmark confirm the confidence that the market has in Semco Maritimes experience and abilities to carry out these types of projects.

The first order is for the new offshore wind farm – Borkum Riffgrund 1 – in the German part of the North Sea. This wind farm will be one of the largest in Germany with a capacity of around 320 MW. For this project Semco Maritime is providing surveillance and fire fighting systems.

The second order is for the Belgian offshore wind farm Northwind, situated some 40 km off the Belgian coastline. Semco Maritime will provide design engineering and the central high voltage power transformer plus a series of surveillance and fire fighting systems for the platform. Once completed, Northwind will have a capacity of 216 MW.

“It is of vital strategic importance for Semco Maritime that we now have the opportunity to design and deliver the high voltage components for an offshore transformer substation,” says Vice President Carsten Nielsen.
