Danish Electric Car Sets New World Record
While it was not a planned record attempt, the electric car TC-X travelled the official dragster-distance of 1/8 mile (equivalent to 201 metres) in just 4.89 seconds. It thereby broke its own record of 5.12 seconds and thus retains the title of the world’s fastest vehicle within the “Extreme Street” category.
The record was set by two Danish cousins, Hans-Henrik Thomsen og Glenn E. Nielsen, in the Swedish city of Malmo, which is the closest drag-racing track to Denmark. The pair are also responsible for building the electric motor bike Silver Bullet, which they used to create a world record as the world’s fastest accelerating electric motorbike in a time of 4.82 seconds in July 2017.

The record caught Hans-Henrik Thomsen by surprise, who states:
- “We’ve spent a lot of time over the last few years improving the car, without it becoming faster…We were consistently hitting times of about 5.1 seconds. Once we got it down to about 4.9 seconds, but that was a one-off”
The pair knew that the problem wasn’t the battery pack or the controls and therefore obtained assistance from specialists with experience in the field of chassis building for extreme vehicles.
Next Step: The Guiness World Records
The TC-X is rapidly approaching the current world record of the fastest electric drag racer, with a time of 4.75 seconds, located in the US.
Given that the pair’s record was made on a track that wasn’t prepared for a record attempt, Hans-Henrik Thomsen believes that they can break the current record:
- “It’s quite extreme to beat one’s own record by 23 seconds, when we’re at this level. Thereofre we also believe its possible to come under the time of 4.75 seconds. If that happens, we’ll be the fastest accelerating electric vehicle over 1/8 mile”.

An official record attempt is planned for 9th – 10th September 2017 during the Winther National competition in Malmø, where the track will be prepared with a more adhesive surface than was the case on Wednesday.
