Solar cooking saves lives and climate

Heliac has invented an inexpensive lens that focuses sunlight in the same way as a large magnifying glass. Based on the lens, Heliac has designed an effective solar cooker boiling one liter of water in 10-13 minutes.

Henrik Pranov, Managing Director of Heliac, hopes the solution can be made available for the approx. three billion people who currently cook over open fire.

The UN has a strong focus on alternative forms of heat generation. In Heliac it is our ambition to support this by annually getting one million solar cookers in the market by 2020.

To achieve this ambition Heliac is interested in finding partners who have access to a large number of the targeted users and/or finding partners who may want to sponsor the solar cookers.

A lens can be produced for about €10, while the entire solar cooker can be made for €60-65.

The same lens can supplement coal, natural gas, and biomass for power plants

Each lens delivers 1.5 kW of heat. For large scale applications where demand for low-cost heat is measured in MWs, Heliac builds panels comprising several lenses each. These panels can supply heat for district heating, district cooling, process heat, desalination, and drive generators producing electricity. Please see 'Solar heating cheaper than coal, natural gas and biomass' for a detailed description of the solution.
