Copenhagen is nominated to the C40 Cities Award for Cloudburst management plan

Copenhagen’s Cloudburst Management Plan is nominated together with Hong Kong and San Francisco in the C40 Cities Award category Adaptation in Action.

The Cloudburst Management Plan was selected along with 34 other projects from all around the world. The winners will be announced at the C40 Summit in Mexico City 1st of December 2016.

Copenhagen Cloudburst Management Plan

Copenhagen has experienced major rainfall events in the past years. One of the largest, in 2011, caused damage totalling about DKK 6bn.

The City of Copenhagen developed a Cloudburst Management Plan in 2012, to combat the impacts of cloud bursts. The plan is an offshoot of the Copenhagen Climate Adaptation Plan.

The C40 Cities Award

Mayors keep delivering new political plans and programmes that contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The C40 Cities Awards, recognize the important role of the cities in the climate change challenge. The C40 Cities awards show the cities’ successes and share the ideas and policies with other cities who can get inspired to act.

The C40 Cities Awards ceremony takes place the 1st of December 2016 during the C40 Mayors Summit in Mexico City. The summit lasts from the 30rd of November to the 2nd of December. Climate change experts, C40 Mayors and industry leader participate in the continued dialogue about the cities role in combating climate change.

Copenhagen has previously won a C40 Cities Award for its Climate Plan in 2013.
