Scottish Power holds largest onshore wind farm in Europe

The wind farm is the utility Scottish Power, and the turbines for this project are supplied by Siemens. The scope of this Siemens project also includes installation, commissioning and a service and maintenance agreement.

The wind farm will consist of 140 2.3 MW wind turbines and will span a total area of 55 km2 with a total road length of 86 km. The total capacity of the onshore wind farm will be 322 MW, which is sufficient to power around 200,000 Scottish households. With this size, the project is the largest onshore wind farm installed in Europe, and Scottish Power has already applied for an extension of the Whitelee wind farm by a further 36 turbines.

Europe’s largest wind farm at Whitelee is also a good example of Siemens’ ability to combine a high degree of cost effective standardization with efforts to accommodate individual site-specific and customer-specific requirements.
