In Rudersdal in Denmark new district heating customers are saving 20% on heating bills and reducing CO2 emissions by 1,000 tons – just by converting from natural gas to district heating.

By converting from natural gas to district heating, a 130 m2 house in Rudersdal will save 3.14 tons of CO2 each year. When the network is completed in approximately five years’ time, total CO2 reduction will be about 13,500 tons a year.

“For more than forty years, I/S Nordforbrænding has incinerated waste to produce electricity and heat. Increasing quantities of waste combined with the effects of improved insulation and renovation of existing housing means that capacity exceeds demand. That’s why we can send district heating between the towns of Hørsholm and Rudersdal – a distance of 4.8 km,” explains Jan Olsen.

“In order to make the project as efficient as possible, a very thorough heat loss calculation has been made for the long transmission pipeline. We selected Series 2 insulated single pipes with diffusion barriers.”
