Grundfos has been deeply involved in a comprehensive modernisation project regarding the Valenton wastewater treatment plant in Paris – the second-largest plant in France.

The main contractor, Degremont, a large French company, decided to make Grundfos its business partner in the upgrade of the plant. The appointment of Grundfos followed favourable recommendations from similar projects conducted in other parts of France, as well as in Italy and Belgium. The upgraded plant has a daily capacity of 800,000 m3, and 1.5 million m3 on rainy days. This is enough to treat the wastewater from 2.5 million people, which corresponds to approx. one fourth of the inhabitants of Paris and its suburbs.

Offered a turnkey solution

Grundfos was asked to construct and design the aeration plants. Grundfos used computer simulation to determine the size and location of mixers and aeration equipment in the tanks, and was therefore able to offer a turnkey solution.

Grundfos’ aeration equipment produces fine bubbles in order to improve the air supply. Aeration is performed by means of polypropylene tubes, which are highly resistant to mechanical stress and differences in water temperatures. Grundfos’ mixers keep the liquid moving in all parts of the reservoirs, thus avoiding sediment. The project enabled Grundfos to generate a turnover of almost 2 million euro. The customer is very pleased with the result, and Grundfos hopes to be able to follow up this job with a service contract that does not only include Grundfos’ own products and solutions, but also the large number of pumps and mixers from other manufacturers.
