Gold medal in sustainability

It is the first city block in Vinge – the Deltaquarter, that has been certified in sustainability. And it is the first time an entire city area in Denmark becomes certified according to the DGNB-standard, which focuses on sustainability within both environmental, economic, social and technical conditions.

Sustainability is the main focus

- The Deltaquarter is only just emerging on a field outside Frederikssund. Therefore I find it very satisfying, that we – as the first city area in Denmark – have achieved this certification, and even a gold medal. Sustainability is the main focus I the creation of the town of Vinge, and with this certification we can now support these intentions with concrete evaluations of a long series of conditions – noteably evaluationsmade by experts, says Frederikssund Mayor, John Schmidt Andersen.

Also the head of the Landscape department, Søren Smidt-Jensen, is proud, that the Deltaquarter can now document its sustainability:

- It is a great acknowledgement for everyone who has been involved in the making of the town of Vinge. The Deltaquarters qualities within energy, handling of rainwater and adaptation to the local nature and wildlife has been highly acclaimed in the sustainability evaluation. We are very happy about that, since these things have been some of our most strong focuspoints in this project.

Evaluated in 45 different criteria

The certification of the Deltaquarter is based on the evaluation of 45 measurable criteria for sustainability within five different areas. For each area the completion is evaluated to anywhere between 0 and 100%. The total for the Deltaquarter is 73,2%, which yields a gold medal.

From the certification:

The Deltaquarter is a pioneering area within sustainability in Denmark. The area creates an attractive frame for a good life by – among other things – turning the challenge of heavy rain showers into an advantage by creating a recreational river delta in the middle of the town. Furthermore a strong social infrastructure is created with different types of housing and cultural activities. Also the new train station is important for the attractiveness and future city life.
