Chinese Mayors Return to Denmark to Explore Green Solutions

15 September 2017

In the year 2017, both Guangdong and Henan provinces committed to conduct the training program -Chinese Mayor Training Program- to Denmark with the participation of 40 mayors.

The Guangdong province (next to Hong Kong) is the frontrunner of open polity and plays a major economic role in South China. Henan province, which has the biggest population of over 100 million, plays a leading role in Central China. Both provinces focus on green solutions and plan for massive investments.

Searching for sustainable solutions in Denmark
Common for both provinces is that they are looking to bring back with them Danish solutions to better support green urbanisation processes in their respective regions, as well as strengthen the way in which processes are managed locally.

The Henan mayors will participate in the training program over the next two weeks, 17-29 September. The programme is focused on sustainable urbanisation, green energy, water supply, wastewater treatment, smart cities and transportation. The organisers of the programme are Chinese Association of Mayors (CAM), China Development Research Foundation (CDRF), Grundfos China, Technical University of Denmark and the Danish branding organisation State of Green.

As a major part of the training, all participants will take lectures and seminars at the Technical University of Denmark, a leading university in Denmark, for the first week in Denmark. This week, the Henan mayors will also meet State of Green to get an overall introduction to the Danish green transition; the Danish Energy Agency to discuss energy policy; HOFOR for insights into district energy; the City of Copenhagen to hear about their ambitious climate plan; as well as go on a boat tour to explore the newly developed areas of Sydhavn and Nordhavn.

During the second week, the mayors will amongst others visit Marselisborg Wastewater Treatment Plant, Truelsbjerg Water Works, Grundfos, DOKK1 in Aarhus, Billund Biorefinery and others.
