From 16–19 March 2026, Their Majesties The King and Queen of Denmark will lead a state visit to Australia, promoting green partnerships in renewable energy and sustainable buildings.

Under the banner “Partnering for a Climate Resilient Tomorrow”, the Royal Visit will bring together high-level policymakers, industry leaders and innovators from both nations. Focused on renewable energy and green buildings, the programme reflects shared ambitions to create secure, low-emission societies through public-private collaboration.
The programme is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark in collaboration with Danish Industry, Danish Shipping, Danish Chamber of Commerce, and the Agriculture and Food Council. State of Green supports the visit as a branding partner.
The upcoming Royal Visit highlights the growing synergy between Australia’s green ambitions and Danish innovation and expertise. With both countries committed to achieving net-zero emissions, the visit serves as a platform to deepen bilateral cooperation on climate action, clean energy, and sustainable development.
Australia is rapidly advancing its climate and energy agenda – phasing out coal, scaling up renewables, and investing in sustainable urban development. Denmark brings decades of experience in integrating renewable energy, decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors, and building energy-efficient, low-emission cities. This alignment of priorities creates a strong foundation for long-term collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The visit will focus on two key sectors where both nations share strategic interests and complementary capabilities:
Australia is phasing out coal-fired power plants and aiming for 82% renewable electricity generation by 2030. Danish companies are well-positioned to contribute, offering world-leading solutions in offshore wind, Power-to-X, bioenergy and energy market integration.
Two Danish offshore wind developers have already secured feasibility licences in Victoria’s Gippsland zone, a promising hub for future wind energy. Australia also holds the world’s largest pipeline of Power-to-X projects, supported by attractive federal funding – a prime opportunity for Danish technology providers focused on green fuels for hard-to-abate sectors like shipping and aviation.
With buildings accounting for 40% of global energy use and nearly 39% of global emissions, the construction sector is central to Australia’s green ambitions. Driven by rapid urbanisation and rising energy costs, Australia plans to invest DKK 131 billion annually in sustainable building solutions by 2030.
The Danish delegation will bring expertise in energy-efficient design, integrated renewables, and green architecture – from materials and engineering to digital solutions. As Australia ramps up public-private projects under frameworks like the National Housing Accord, Danish companies offer scalable, proven technologies for net-zero urban development.
Denmark brings decades of experience in building a green, competitive economy through public-private collaboration and innovation. As Australia advances its climate agenda, Danish companies stand ready to contribute with strongholds across sectors – from renewable energy and sustainable construction to smart water, digitalisation, agriculture and circular solutions.
