Relive highlights and watch the webinar “Collaborative urban transformation: Global and local climate action”
Watch the webinarBuildings and cities are major contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions. Urban areas produce about 70 percent of global CO2 emissions, primarily from energy use in buildings and transportation. The UN is projecting that nearly 70 percent of the global population will live in cities by 2050, making urban areas a crucial target for climate action.
Danish experiences demonstrate that progressive regulations, efficiency measures and energy renovation are among the simplest and most economically beneficial avenues to decarbonise the built environment. Offering practical solutions to minimise the consumption of resources while considering social and financial value, Denmark helps partners all over the world improve their environmental and human impact from construction projects.
This webinar brings together thought leaders from VELUX, Ramboll, C40 and CONCITO to create an in-depth dialogue on how cities and companies can contribute to the climate transition through sustainable practices and strategies that address both CO2 reduction and promote overall well-being. Learn more about the participants below:
At the national level, organisations like CONCITO play a vital role in contextualising and driving climate action within Denmark. As Denmark’s leading green think tank, CONCITO is at the forefront of initiatives such as the Climate Alliance, that has been developed in collaboration with C40, which brings together municipalities, businesses, and organizations to collaboratively address climate challenges. CONCITO outlines how multi-level cooperation between states and municipalities can push the green transition.
VELUX emphasizes a holistic perspective on sustainability, integrating environmental responsibility with health and well-being considerations. Their commitment to sustainability extends beyond energy efficiency, encompassing a broader responsibility to both human health and the planetary boundaries.
While broad strategies and frameworks are essential, the transition to a sustainable future also requires practical tools that can guide decision-making on the ground. Ramboll’s “CO2mpare” is therefore an important tool. Designed to provide cities and businesses with actionable insights, this tool allows users to compare the CO2 footprints of different projects and solutions, enabling more informed and effective decision-making.

C40 is a global network of nearly 100 mayors of the world’s leading cities that are united in action to confront the climate crisis. C40’s Climate Action Planning Framework has provided a critical roadmap for urban climate action planning worldwide. The Cities Climate Transition Framework updates the Climate Action Planning Framework to respond to the latest climate science and to incorporate the experience from five years of supporting cities in their climate action planning. It offers a blueprint for how cities with a robust and strategic climate action plan can transition to netzero, resilient futures, emphasizing the need for integrated climate policies that are socially inclusive and economically viable.
