Site visit: Accompanying 40+ energy attachés around Copenhagen's offshore wind park

As the informal Environment and Energy Council meeting took place in July, State of Green accompanied 40+ energy attachés from across the EU on a wind energy tour around the Copenhagen Harbour in collaboration with Green Power Denmark and the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities.

The visit underlined a shared European message: to succeed with the green transition and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, no country can act alone. Cross-border collaboration, shared infrastructure, and collective investment in renewable energy are essential.

In the interview, Jan Hylleberg, Deputy CEO of Green Power Denmark, highlights the need to accelerate electrification, strengthen infrastructure, and create investment-friendly conditions to drive Europe’s green transition, whil Sofie Freilev Ion, Co-chair of the Council Working Party on Energy during the Danish EU Presidency, underscores the importance of European cooperation and expresses confidence in the upcoming negotiations.

Site visit: Showcasing the world's largest seawater heat pump to 60+ climate and environment attaché

As part of the Danish EU Presidency, State of Green, Danish Industry and the Ministry for Climate, Energy and Utilities invited more than 60 climate and environment attachés for a trip to Esbjerg to see how local solutions can contribute to Europe’s broader climate ambitions. The group toured DIN Forsyning, home to the world’s largest seawater heat pump using supercritical CO₂ as a refrigerant. The groundbreaking system extracts heat from seawater and supplies fossil-free district heating powered primarily by wind energy.

The visit illustrated how electrifying heat with renewable sources can provide efficient, flexible energy at an industrial scale – and how local infrastructure projects can feed directly into Europe’s green transition. It also highlighted the importance of partnerships and innovation in scaling practical solutions from the local level to the European stage.

During the trip, we caught up with Claus A. Nielsen from Din Forsyning and Anders Finck, Environment Attaché from the Permanent Representation of Denmark to the EU, and asked them how local green solutions like this can be used as inspiration from a European perspective.

Press trip: Green leadership and energy security in focus

In the weeks leading up to Denmark taking on the EU Presidency, State of Green launched an international press tour for journalists from Germany, France, and Poland – spotlighting how Danish green leadership supports Europe’s climate and energy security ambitions.

Against the backdrop of shifting European security policies and the need to reduce reliance on imported energy, the first day of the tour showcased Danish solutions at the intersection of resilience, innovation, and citizen involvement. Participants met with key stakeholders including DTU, Energinet, European Energy, Danfoss, Hempel, Odense Port, Andel, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, COWI, ARC, DBDH, CONCITO, and the Confederation of Danish Industry.

Discussions centred on decentralised energy systems, large-scale renewable investments, sector integration, and how Denmark’s energy model can serve as a blueprint for a secure and competitive green Europe. The press tour continued with site visits across the country, exploring offshore wind, Power-to-X, and climate policy in practice.
