With Europes wind industry gathering in Copenhagen for the annual WindEurope 2025, State of Green is proud to present a brand-new edition of our white paper on “Wind energy – powering the future”.  From cutting-edge R&D and grid integration to circular solutions and offshore scale-up, Denmark is home to the full value chain of wind energy. This publication offers a comprehensive look at how Denmark is helping build a resilient, interconnected and green energy system – both at home and across borders.

Wind energy as the backbone of Europe’s green and secure future

As Europe moves to replace fossil fuels with clean energy, wind has emerged as the key driver of the transition. But beyond its climate benefits, wind energy also plays a vital role in ensuring security of supply.

This updated white paper, Wind Energy – Powering the Future, offers a comprehensive look at how Denmark is helping build a resilient, interconnected and green energy system – both at home and across borders.

About the white paper

“Wind Energy – Powering the Future” is the latest publication from State of Green. The white paper is launched to coincide with WindEurope 2025 in Copenhagen, and explores key themes across 11 chapters, including:

  • Scaling offshore wind to power the future

  • Grid integration and electrification

  • Innovation and sustainability in wind technologies

  • Socioeconomic and environmental impacts

  • International cooperation and green diplomacy

The publication is made in collaboration with Danish Industry, Danish Energy Agency, and Green Power Denmark.

Electrify, scale-up and deliver – the Danish way

Wind energy is a cornerstone of the energy transition. As global ambitions grow, so does the urgency to electrify energy systems, scale up renewable capacity, and deliver resilient infrastructure. This new publication demonstrates how Denmark contributes to every link in that chain:

  • Scale-up: Through a network of cutting-edge research and testing facilities, Denmark continues to advance wind technologies. Projects like the Thor Offshore Wind Farm show that circular business models are becoming reality – with reused rotor blades and low-carbon towers setting new standards for sustainable offshore wind.

  • Electrify: A reliable and flexible power grid is vital to integrate high shares of wind. Denmark’s experience with grid integration – and companies like NKT supporting green energy corridors in Germany – showcases how electrification across sectors can go hand in hand with security of supply.

  • Deliver: Effective coordination between stakeholders is key. Denmark’s One-Stop-Shop approach, led by the Danish Energy Agency and exemplified by Energinet, streamlines permitting and planning, ensuring that offshore wind projects move forward without unnecessary delay.

Denmark: Home to the entire wind value chain

Denmark has spent decades building a comprehensive wind industry that spans the entire value chain – from world-class test facilities and turbine manufacturing to operations, maintenance, grid integration and export.

Today, wind energy supplies more than half of Denmark’s electricity. Through close public-private collaboration, strong policy frameworks and a commitment to innovation, Denmark continues to demonstrate how renewable energy can scale – while ensuring grid stability and long-term energy security.

This white paper outlines how wind power supports a flexible, integrated energy system in Denmark and how these experiences and technologies are now being shared across borders to support Europe’s green transition.
