Cities of Nature
Until recently, most discussions about urban development have solely been concerned with the quality of the built environment. Today, planners and politicians are becoming aware of the need for a grown environment. Understanding the connection between nature and our wellbeing has become crucial for cities that favour sustainable life quality. For more than 20 years, sustainable solutions through nature-based design have been the focal point of SLA’s work. The processes of nature are put into play in SLA’s master plans, urban spaces and landscapes, to make our cities more resilient to the climate change while at the same time creating utility and amenity value.
SLA is a multidisciplinary architectural lab and employs landscape architects, designers, biologists, city planners, planting experts, sociologists and urban forests engineers. The projects are made in close collaboration with the clients, users and partners in order to achieve a robust, long-lasting and sustainable development. Even though the projects are always deeply founded in the local circumstances, the methods and solutions are efficiently utilizable in other cities around.
Based in Copenhagen, Aarhus and Oslo, SLA constantly strives to challenge and expand the boundaries of urban space, city planning and landscape architecture. Drawing on its strong Nordic roots the company has realized numerous projects in Denmark, Europe, Asia and Africa.
