The untapped potential of buildings

As buildings account for almost 40% of global energy consumption, they represent a pressing, but also promising, action area in the green transition. It is predicted that 85-95% of the European building stock that will exist in 2050 has already been built. Thus, targeting the energy consumption of buildings is a key priority for any country or community striving to reduce CO2 emissions.   Promoting energy efficient buildings has long been a cornerstone of Danish green ambitions, and the innovative solutions developed by both the public and private sector have made Denmark a global leader in this field. The Danish goverment and Danish companies are constantly raising the bar and showing the way to make our buildings more energy efficient.

Editorial note

In the print version of the publication, we have been made aware that figure 1 fails to clarify that the revision of the EPBD presented in 2021 is a proposal adopted by The European Commission, and not the final legislative act.

This has been amended in the online version available for download.
