3VAND consists of the water utilities HOFOR, BIOFOS, Aarhus Vand and VCS Denmark from the 3 largest cities in Denmark.
We work together in a close, strategic, collaborative partnership. We operate in several water-related fields both domestically and abroad. Our activities include R&D projects, development of the water sector in general and providing support for the Danish water industry. Abroad, we carry out a broad range of activities including consultancy, training/education and dissemination of knowledge and technologies. All partners in 3VAND contribute actively to the agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals as defined by the UN.
Our portfolio of internationally recognised results include considerable reduction of energy consumption, and thereby significantly reducing our CO2 footprint. We recover resources and produce energy from wastewater – to the extent that we now produce more energy than we consume.
Our main operational activities include catchment, treatment, and distribution of potable water – as well as transporting and treating wastewater to very high standards to protect the aquatic environment. We also combine climate adaptation with recreational development of smart, liveable cities.
We employ our in-depth understanding of the needs and challenges of water and wastewater utilities to support industry and researchers alike, and we partner with both governmental and non-governmental organisations to generate value for society. Each year, we conduct onsite demonstrations of water technologies for visitors, and we share our experience and knowhow on how to bring the Danish way of thinking into practice, both in operations and in management.
