“We must accelerate the green transition. It is urgent. Action must be taken now.”

Those are the words of Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs Jeppe Kofod in the news media Børsen (in Danish) ahead of the launch of a strategy on attracting green investments to Denmark.

The strategy by Invest in Denmark – a unit in the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs – contains the guiding principles on which Denmark targets the efforts on attracting investments in the years 2020 to 2023. The focus is particularly on attracting technology and knowledge-based, green investments across all of Denmark. This is done by rendering Denmark’s green competencies even more visibly for foreign investors and companies.

“The new strategy is an important part of my green foreign policy. A foreign policy that contributes to Danish welfare and jobs across Denmark. We will work to attract investments and solutions that contribute to reaching our climate goals. By attracting green investments to Denmark, we ensure that the green solutions of the future are developed and applied here and then exported globally. Denmark must be a green super power that acts on the global climate crisis and contributes to sustainable solutions worldwide,” said Minister for Foreign Affairs Jeppe Kofod in a press release.

Launch of strategy at model partnership

The strategy was launched on the Danish island of Bornholm, at the ACDC-project - a collaboration between Vestas, DTU, Circle Consult, Nissan and Bornholm’s Energy & Utilities. The goal of the project is to control the charging of electric vehicles by developing new technology for charging stations. Meanwhile, the project aims to increase the number of electrical vehicles at Bornholm to alleviate the emissions from the transport sector.

To Minister Jeppe Kofod, the ACDC-project is a good example of what the Ministry of Foreign Affairs aims to achieve with its new strategy:

“It has the potential to increase productivity and innovation in Danish business and support and accelerate the green transition, - and it promotes growth and development across Denmark. The project also shows that successful attraction of foreign investments rests on a close collaboration between Invest in Denmark and municipalities as well as knowledge institutions and other local actors.”

Invest in Denmark

The national effort for attracting foreign investments is anchored in Invest in Denmark, which is part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Invest in Denmark attracts knowledge, technology, capital, and jobs to Denmark in collaboration with public and private partners such as Copenhagen Capacity, Danish municipalities, universities etc. This has created great value and led to the creation of more than 15,000 jobs in Denmark throughout the previous 10 years.
