Wind Turbines just 3 km from Copenhagen’s Main Square

The three wind turbines, located in an industrial area of Copenhagens waterfront named Prøvestenen, are part of the capital’s municipal plan to erect turbines in both Copenhagen and across Denmark - both onshore and offshore. The turbines must play their part in order for Denmark to reach its national target of 50% electricity consumption to come from wind energy by 2020, as well as Copenhagen’s ambition to become CO2 neutral in 2025.
Copenhagen’s wind energy efforts will feed in 360 MW into the Danish energy system, thus contributing with more than 10% of the wind energy required in order to reach the national 2020-target.
"The Copenhageners have received the new turbines very well, of which one of them is owned by the public. It is a special Danish structure that allows citizens to purchase a share in one of the turbines and become directly involved in the green transition. I think that this is one of the reasons why we have so much wind energy in Denmark", says CEO of HOFOR Lars Therkildsen.
