Challenge

Composite manufacturers across industries such as wind energy, automotive, aerospace, marine and construction face increasing pressure to improve process control, product quality and sustainability—particularly when producing large and complex FRP components using vacuum infusion.

As component sizes increase, manufacturers must manage resin flow behaviour, air evacuation and process repeatability with greater precision. At the same time, customers are demanding more sustainable materials, lower CO₂ footprints and reliable, data-driven support to optimise their manufacturing processes.

Without deep material expertise, controlled testing and continuous innovation, manufacturers risk inconsistent quality, higher scrap rates, and inefficient production processes.

Solution

EXPO-NET Danmark A/S was established in 1959 and is an international plastic net specialist, developing and manufacturing thermoplastic netting and resin flow mesh solutions from 100% recyclable polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). All products are manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certified management systems.

Operating from its 38,000 m² site in Hjørring, Denmark, EXPO-NET combines in-house R&D, engineering, extrusion production and testing to deliver customised solutions for demanding composite applications.

To support customers in optimising vacuum infusion, EXPO-NET has conducted controlled resin flow rate testing across multiple flow mesh grades under identical conditions. This data-driven approach enables customers to select the optimal mesh type—quick, medium, or slow flow—based on part geometry, laminate design, and resin system.

In parallel, EXPO-NET is investing in the development of bio-attributed thermoplastic netting products, offering customers sustainable alternatives with equivalent performance, full recyclability, and a significantly reduced carbon footprint.

Result

Through its combination of deep material expertise, in-house testing capabilities, and a long-term commitment to sustainability, EXPO-NET enables composite manufacturers to achieve higher levels of process control, consistency, and efficiency in vacuum infusion processes.

By providing data-driven guidance on resin flow behaviour and mesh selection, customers can optimise infusion processes for large and complex FRP components, reducing the risk of air entrapment, premature resin curing, and rejected parts. At the same time, EXPO-NET’s focus on recyclable and bio-attributed thermoplastic solutions supports customers in meeting increasing sustainability and CO₂ reduction requirements without compromising performance.

The result is improved product quality, more predictable manufacturing outcomes, and long-term value creation through close technical collaboration and innovation.
