To curb climate change and accelerate the green transition, finance is pivotal. With pioneering pension funds, asset managers, and public investors, Denmark has long been leading the way in ESG and green financing.

Through sector integration we need to move the energy flows with highest possible efficiency between sectors and transfer the renewable energy to transport, heating and production which today are powered by fossil fuels.

Denmark is making efforts to tackle the increasing challenges threatening both local and global biodiversity. With the EU Biodiversity Strategy leading the way, new initiatives is being made to support plants, animals and ecosystems in the future.

Transitioning to a sustainable economy and achieving net zero cannot be done without global partnerships and cross-sectoral collaboration. With this notion, Denmark has established 14 climate partnerships placing the private sector at the heart of the green transition.

In enabling the green transition, it is crucial to address product life extension, reuse, and the recycling of waste, circular business models can reduce consumption and minimise waste generation. They allow products to be continuously used, reused, sold as a service, and enable the sharing of products, rather than incentivising a one-time purchase.

While the green transition creates vast employment opportunities, it also calls for upskilling, new labour market policies and investments in human capital. Based on the legacy of public-private partnerships, Denmark shows that job creation and green growth can go hand in hand.

The P4G initiative aims at engaging private companies and governments in partnerships with the purpose of solving the UN’s 17 development goals. As the national platform for P4G activities in Denmark, State of Green will help facilitate such partnerships.
