Arcon-Sunmark Builds World’s Largest Solar Heating Plant

20 % of the heating demand

The initial preparations have started and during the next 6 months a solar plant with 156.694 m2 solar panels installed right outside the city of Silkeborg. The large solar panel area will supply the heating supply with 20% of the total yearly heating demand. With a yearly energy production of 80000 MWh, the new plant will cover what is equal to 4400 households.

- We have analysed the possibilities to in the future secure the heating supply in the city of Silkeborg on a responsible way, both economically and environmentally. This solar plant is an important piece together with a new flue gas condensing plant, which we are also planning, says Leif Bæk, city council member for the Liberal Party and Chairman of the Silkeborg Utility.

Up and running in 2016

The solar heating plant will be functioning by the end of 2016 and is build by the enterprise Arcon-Sunmark.

- In Silkeborg you have decided to build the world largest solarheating plant, and we are proud that they have chosen us for this important assignment. Solar heating in large scale is both environmental friendly and cost efficient. Said in another way, you build a solar heating plant, because it makes sense economically, and because it will benefit the citizens of Silkeborg the next many years to come, says Søren Elisiussen, CEO of Arcon-Sunmark
