Tiny consumer owned watercompany wins bronze in blind tasting

Danish tap water quality is second to none regardless the size of the water company. The tiny water supply of Kostræde Ny Waterwork proved this by winning the third place at Danish Water Grand Prix, where the best tasting drinking water in Denmark was found at a blind tasting competition.

Kostræde Ny Waterwork supply a mere 500 local consumers with approximately 40,000 m3 of water per year. This makes it one of the smallest watersupplies to enter the competition.

Chairman of the board in Kostraede Ny Vandvaerk Mr. Leif Nygaard was happy after the announcement:

"This is a great way to put focus on our unique water supply in Denmark," he said.

His daily job is in another water supply - the municipality owned supply for the nearby much bigger city of Naestved.

"Now I have the right to brag at work" he said with a smile.

He received the trophy from Danish Minister for the Environment Mrs. Kirsten Brosbøl. She took the opportunity to thank all of the competing water companies for celebrating the clean drinking water in Denmark:

“The fact that our utilities in Denmark compete on who can supply the tastiest drinking water is quite unique. It is a result of the fact that we have managed and protected our groundwater resources and have developed skilled water supply companies that take pride in providing the best drinking water to the citizens," said Kirsten Brosbøl.
