Green by Iceland and State of Green pen agreement to boost business ties and promote green solutions

A new declaration signed between Green by Iceland and State of Green aims to promote Icelandic-Danish business ties and green solutions from both countries. The signing took place at a joint Danish-Icelandic business forum held in Copenhagen, witnessed by the President of Iceland and TM the King and Queen of Denmark.

Signed on 9 October during a Danish-Icelandic Business Forum, a new collaboration agreement between Green by Iceland and State of Green is set to increase collaboration and promote green technologies between Iceland and Denmark. The areas of focus inlcudes renewable energy, climate action and business opportunities in the green transition. The Danish-Icelandic Business Forum was part of the first incoming state visit for HE King Frederik and HE Queen Mary of Denmark, and the first outward bound state visit for the newly elected Icelandic President Halla Tómasdóttir. The new tie-up aims to build on the unique strengths of both countries and strengthen cooperation in promoting Icelandic and Danish green solutions internationally, through knowledge sharing and increased Nordic cooperation.

Witnessed by Iceland’s President HE Halla Tómasdóttir and HE King Frederik X of Denmark, the declaration was signed by Finn Mortensen, Executive Director of State of Green, and Nótt Thorberg, Director of Green by Iceland. Iceland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir, and Denmark’s Minister for Climate, Energy, and Infrastructure, Lars Aagaard, were also present, along with Sigurður Hannesson, Chairman of the Board of Green by Iceland, and Thomas Bustrup, Deputy CEO of Danish Industry and representative of the board of State of Green.

As advocates for climate action through public-private partnerships, we are excited to strengthen our collaboration with our Icelandic sister organisation, Green by Iceland. Together, we aim to enhance business cooperation between our countries while tapping into global opportunities. With our combined experience in R&D, technology rollout, renewables, and related energy solutions, we see great potential to inspire green transition and foster collaborative pathways towards just, equitable, net-zero economies”, says Finn Mortensen, Executive Director, State for Green.

At the event, Iceland’s President further announced that she would become the patron of Green by Iceland, following the example of King Frederik X of Denmark’s patronage of State of Green since its founding in 2008.

This declaration of intent is of great significance for us at Green by Iceland. By sharing expertise and working on joint projects, Green by Iceland and State of Green can strengthen their leadership in the green transition internationally. Both Denmark and Iceland can make significant contributions to climate action, and State of Green is a strong partner we look forward to working with on this project,” said Nótt Thorberg, Director of Green by Iceland.

At the Danish-Icelandic Business Forum, dignitaries and the largest-ever Icelandic business delegation discussed trade cooperation and joint opportunities in the fields of energy transition and digitalisation. Both Iceland and Denmark can contribute through increased knowledge sharing between the countries and cooperation on the international stage, as both nations are leaders in the use of renewable energy and innovation in climate solutions.
