India has made significant strides in offshore wind energy, launching its first offshore wind tenders in 2024 as part of a larger push to expand its renewable energy portfolio. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has set ambitious targets, including 30 GW offshore wind capacity by 2030. India’s first tender process, which began in 2022, focuses on developing wind farms off the coasts of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, leveraging the country’s vast coastline and strong wind resources.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) projects that by 2040, India’s electricity consumption could triple, positioning the country as one of the largest global markets for renewable energy. This surge in demand highlights India’s significant role in the future of clean energy.
