Danish Wind Turbine Sets World Record

The wind-swept west coast of Jutland, Denmark has turned out to be a match made in heaven for a Siemens 2.3 MW wind turbine. Erected back in 2003 at Harboøre in Denmark, it has managed to produce 100 million kilowatt hours during its 11 years in operation thus far, making it the world’s most productive wind turbine.

Put into perspective, 100 million kilowatt hours corresponds to the total annual energy consumption of a mid-sized Danish city of 45,000 inhabitants – produced by a single turbine.

“We are proud of this record, which underlines the potential of wind power. When the turbine has been bought and paid for, it stands year after year producing green energy. It also demonstrates that we can produce wind turbines with substantial operational reliability. In Denmark, we have found a niche within green energy and built up a considerable amount of expertise and know how, says Head of Press at Siemens Rasmus Windfeld.

As mentioned, it has taken 11 years to reach the 100 million mark, however, according to Siemens, it will not take that long before this mark is reached again. Their 6 MW offshore wind turbines should break the record in a matter of just three years.
