The Danish Energy Agency Initiate International Green Growth Cooperation

Following the Danish government's new export strategy launched on March 22nd 2017, the Danish Energy Agency will strengthen their cooperation with the three largest export markets for energy technology; the US, UK, and Germany.

As part of the export strategy, experts from the Danish Energy Agency will now share their knowledge on Denmark’s energy regulation and solutions with international colleagues. Dialogue and knowledge sharing with international authorities highlights the Danish approach and technological solutions – which may, in turn, create commercial contacts and opportunities for Danish companies.

National and regional focus on authorities and companies

The Danish Energy Agency’s new collaboration will focus both on national and federal authorities as well as selected states and municipalities. In Germany, efforts will be aimed at cooperation within the areas of district heating, coproduction of electricity and heat, and energy efficiency. The collaboration will seek to engage authorities on both the federal level and in selected states.

For instance, the Southern German state of Baden Württemberg is looking to find more renewable energy solutions to replace nuclear power and make the major German industries more energy efficient. Here, both the Danish regulatory experiences and energy efficient green technologies can be a part of the solution.

In the UK, the collaboration will also focus on district heating – in both England and particularly in Scotland, where they are currently working on expanding their district heating system to heat British households. Today, under 2 % of British houses receive their heat from district heating, which is why the UK is looking to Danish solutions and experiences that provide a total of 64 % of Danish households with district heating.

In the US, there is a rapidly growing focus and market for wind turbines at sea. Denmark is the world leader in offshore wind, and both the Danish Energy Agency and Danish companies are experiencing a great demand for their knowledge, experience, and solutions that can benefit the North American market of offshore wind turbines.

Close cooperation with the Industry and Embassies

The efforts and cooperation with the three countries is based on a close cooperation between the Danish Energy Agency, the Trade Council, the countries’ Danish Embassies, and Danish energy trade associations.
