Living up to the high requirements of producing an estimated 1,600 tons of salmon fry annually sets stringent demands for clean and safe intake water. The Smolt Station has a total water intake of around 2,400 l/sec on an annual average.

This water needs to be of very high quality to prevent bacteria outbreaks while maintaining essential water qualities such as pH and temperature. This situation necessitates a sophisticated disinfection solution, ideally suited to UV systems that can fulfil all these requirements.

To guarantee a thoroughly clean and disinfected source of intake water, two MR44-350SS ULTRABARRIER UV systems were installed.

The systems will effectively ensure that no harmful microorganisms are introduced through the intake water. These systems are designed to treat a maximum flow capacity of 980 liters per second with a UVT of approximately 99.3%, targeting bacteria such as Bacterial Kidney Disease (BKD).

With the UV systems in place, the facility is now equipped to produce more robust smolts throughout the process. This enhancement enables the station to meet the high production requirements, ensuring the delivery of resilient smolts.
