In the summer of 2016, a new high-tech biogas facility (in Danish: Sønderjysk Biogas) will start converting local manure and straw into green energy. When completed, this flagship project will be one of the largest and most efficient facilities in Denmark.

The plant will be able to handle 600,000 tons of biomass and produce 21 million cubic meters of methane (equivalent to the energy consumption of 15,000 houses or 570 buses).

Biogas production diversifies and improves energy security through the development of local biomass into renewable energy and prevents many of the environmental impacts caused by the agricultural sector.

The project is a result of a new innovative partnership between the energy company E.ON and local farmers. This partnership combines E.ON’s international experience within energy supply and gas production, and the local farmers who will ensure a stabile flow of input factors as well as usage of the subsequent residue.

This biogas flagship project also adds a valuable contribution to the development of green growth and the creation of new jobs.
