Built in 2013 the National Aquarium of Denmark, The Blue Planet, is Northern Europe’s largest of its kind. With thousands of animals and seven million liters of water it is one of the few aquariums in the world that accommodates wildlife from all around the globe.
This facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technical installations to keep the environment healthy and as close to the natural environment as possible to ensure that the animals thrive.
Water has contributed to the project with the exceptional Helios UV systems which are disinfecting 2.7 million liters of water every hour. UV light has the ability to deactivate or kill up to 99.99% of the waterborne pathogens and is also very effective against bacteria (e.g. Clostridium), viruses and microorganisms such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia (which are resistant to chlorine). UV water purification is the last step in the water treatment process after which surplus water can be released into the sea without any risks of discharging microorganisms to the water microorganisms causing uncontrollable propagation.
