Challenge

An agricultural school and production facility in southern Denmark had the ambition of reducing its carbon footprint and turning the facility’s own waste into an energy resource.

Solution

In 2023, GreenFarm installed a system that significantly reduces the facility’s CO2 emissions by using manure from its production to generate heat, electricity, and optimized fertilizer, all utilized locally on the farm.

Starting in early 2024, an innovative carbon capture and storage (CCS) system will be integrated, capturing the entire biogenic CO2 stream from the power units’ post-combustion exhaust. This will enable carbon-free power and heat generation from the biogas facility.

Result

The plant’s overall impact includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions, decreasing local water pollution, and creating optimized fertilizer as a byproduct for crop production. Annually, the facility processes 11,000 cubic meters of manure, with initial calculations showing a reduction of 1,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
