A lack of renewable energy sources in Egypt has presented a challenge for the Egyptian government in recent years. This lack of renewable energy, along with increasing energy usage has created the incentive to find more green energy solutions in Egypt.
The solution to this challenge is a 252 MW wind farm project in the Gulf of Suez. Vestas was the company to win the contract with the Egyptian government, and to build the wind farm, which is expected to save around 560.000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. The project required an investment of over 200 million Euros, and is planned to be fully operational in 2023.
The project’s annual production is expected to reach 1027 GWh of clean energy, and according to NREA, save around 5600.000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
