Challenge

Denmark emits just 0.1% of the world’s CO2 emissions. Therefore, our national climate efforts cannot stand alone, if we want to address global climate change.

Solution

By having close bilateral cooperation with 25 key partner countries, which collectively emit 70% of the world’s CO2 emissions, we can amplify our impact on global CO2 emission reductions. Our efforts are based on decades of experience within the green transition. From depending entirely on imported fossil fuels, we now have almost 70 per cent share of electricity from renewables while maintaining a world record security of electricity supply at 99.996 %.

Result

A green transition of the energy sector is not only a transition towards a more sustainable energy supply, it also results in greater energy security and independence of importing fossil fuels.
