The Ministry of the Environment is responsible for administrative and research tasks in the areas of environmental protection. In Denmark, the administration at the state level is managed by the Ministry of Environment. At the regional and local levels, much of the administrative responsibility has been delegated to the municipalities.

The Ministry consists of five agencies and several local Centres across the country. Three independent appeal boards are also linked to the Ministry.
