Black Silicon Solar has developed a new way of increasing the absorption of light in silicon solar cells. Using nanotechnology we can offer a method that drastically increases the absorption of light in a way that is cost-effective. This is achieved by a simple and scalable 1-step texturing method. The technology makes the manufacturing of solar cells less complicated, cleaner and less time-consuming. We believe our technology can lower the cost and increase the efficiency of solar cells by a significant margin.

Our patent pending technology is being developed at the Technical University of Denmark's Department of Nanotechnology.

What Makes Us Unique?
The solar industry has worked with anti-reflective treatments for a long time and many different approaches are being used. Our approach has been to develop a method that is low-cost, scalable and possible to integrate in existing productions. Many anti-reflective and texturing solutions have been proposed by research, but the high level of complexity of these technologies make them far too expensive to be applicable in the market. We believe in silicon as base material, due to its far superior abundance and manufacturability compared to other semiconductor materials.

Our approach has been to not reinvent the solar cell but rather focus on how to increase the light absorption at a cheaper cost. The performance of our surface texturing is very high despite the low cost, and it is the combination of cheap and effective that makes us unique. Our commercial approach also gives our technology a shorter "time to market" than our competitors.

In short: Our technology is cost-effective, scalable and can readily be implemented in the solar industry.
