1) IT'S A RECORD! 39% OF DENMARK’S ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION COVERED BY WIND IN 2014
In 2004, wind turbines provided 18.8% of Denmark’s electricity consumption. 10 years later, the figure is 39.1% - and in January 2014 alone, Denmark’s wind turbines reached 61.7%.

“We will definitely reach the 2020 targets. We have set a one-of-a-kind world record and it demonstrates that we can reach our actual goal, namely to stop global warming”, says the former Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Building Rasmus Helveg Petersen.

But it gets even better.

2) DENMARK REACHES 5 GW WIND ENERGY AND ANOTHER RECORD IS MADE

At the end of August 2015, Denmark was able to celebrate another wind-milestone, as onshore and offshore wind jointly raised the capacity to 5,010 MW.

The Danish wind turbines are expected to produce electricity equivalent to approximately 43% of Danish electricity consumption in 2015, which is a new clear world record. The production corresponds to the Danish wind turbines covering more than the electricity consumption of all Danish households as well as public institutions.

3) 140 PER CENT OF DENMARK’S ELECTRICITY NEEDS COVERED BY WIND POWER
Due to an unusually windy day on June the 12th, wind farms in Denmark managed to produce 140 per cent of the country's electricity needs, thereby manifesting Denmark as a front runner of wind power production.

This particular night, Denmark far surpassed the entire country’s energy needs just through wind power production. The 40 per cent surplus power was exported to Sweden, Norway and Germany.

That is not all. Did you know...
Denmark is a global hub for wind power innovation and development. The Danish wind industry encompasses more than 350 companies and employs 25,000 people.

Companies working with wind from all over the world have located central parts of their R&D operations in Denmark, and the concentration of companies covering the entire wind power value chain is unparalleled elsewhere in the world.

Companies located in Denmark are able to deliver end-to-end solutions all the way from research and development through production and assembly to operations and maintenance.

As a consequence of the strong Danish competences, one in every three wind turbines and nine out of ten offshore turbines in operation worldwide are based on Danish technology or know-how.

The availability of a highly skilled workforce, superb facilities for testing prototypes and a comprehensive network of companies, research institutions and government research programmes make up an innovative R&D environment like no other place in the world.

Read all about the Danish Wind Energy sector and find the best companies and solution from Denmark.

European leaders set sights on North Sea wind expansion

25 October 2024
The countries around the North Seas seek to boost offshore wind power with a series of concrete recommendations on how Europe can deliver on its renewable energy ambitions. The so-called 'Odense Recommendations' were delivered during the North Seas Ministerial Meeting held at Odense Port on 24 October.
