Denmark’s national stadium, Parken, is set to become more energy-efficient.

Andel, Denmark’s leading energy group, and F.C. Copenhagen, Scandinavia’s largest football club, have struck a 5-year partnership with focus on energy optimisation, renewable energy integration, and charging infrastructure for Denmark’s national arena, located in the heart of Copenhagen.

“Our goal is to make Denmark’s national stadium a beacon for the country’s green transition, where innovative energy solutions show the way for how sports and climate action can go hand in hand. Football is a central part of Danish culture. We have a unique opportunity to inspire both businesses and fans to take an active part in the green transition. Through our energy partnership, we can show that the climate fight is not only a necessity, but also an opportunity to create a greener future for everyone.” says Andel’s CEO, Jesper Hjulmand.

Setting an example for sustainability in sports venues

Over a five-year period, extensive energy renovations will be carried out and new green solutions will be implemented throughout Parken.

Key measures include a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Vedde Solar Park, ensuring a significant share of Parken’s electricity comes from renewable sources, and the installation of 23 public and semi-public EV charging stations around the stadium. Energy advisory services from Andel will further support efforts to reduce overall energy consumption.

With over a million visitors annually, Parken has the potential to inspire businesses and individuals to participate in the green transition. By implementing renewable energy solutions and energy efficiency improvements, the partnership demonstrates how sports and sustainability can go hand in hand.

This initiative positions Parken as a showcase for energy solutions, offering insights and inspiration for other venues and institutions looking to reduce their carbon footprint.
