Apple to Build Second Data Centre in Denmark Powered by Renewables

Like all Apple data centres – including the one in Viborg - the Aabenraa facility will be supplied with 100% renewable energy from day one.

The Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Anders Samuelsen, welcomes Apple's decision to invest again with a big smile:

-It's simply so beautiful! The fact that Apple reinvests shows the importance of strong and seamless cooperation nationally, regionally and locally to attract investment. This means job creation and growth in South Denmark, and even as important, contributes to Denmark's continued green and digital development. The Government continues its targeted effort to attract more foreign investment because we believe that it is the way to create more jobs and more exports, contributing to our development as a competitive nation.

The Danish Minister for Energy, Utility and Climate, Lars Chr. Lilleholt, is also pleased by yet another acknowledgement of the Danish security of supply and green energy technologies and adds:

-Denmark is at the forefront of green energy technologies. The fact that Apple, with such a significant environmental profile, once again chooses to invest in Denmark, confirms that we as a country have something special to offer. As a minister for energy, utility and climate, it naturally makes me proud. We can rightly be proud to have the world's best energy system with high levels of green energy, high security of supply, good fiber connections and not least competitive energy prices. With Apple's clear message about future investments in renewable energy without public subsidies, the Government has a significant role to play in Denmark's green transition.

The Danish Minister for Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, Brian Mikkelsen, is pleased that Apple places another data centre in Denmark, thus contributing to the creation of digital growth:

-It is very positive that we have the framework conditions needed to attract the largest investors. Data centres contribute to Denmark's continued digital development, and points towards the future. In the autumn, the government is launching a strategy for Denmark's digital growth to further support the opportunities offered by digitisation, which can contribute to digitising Danish business life in the future.

With the latest data centre investments from Apple and Facebook and Google’s purchase of a land plot, Denmark is undeniably in the spotlight of the world’s biggest tech players, and in particular the three top ranking green tech profiles according to the Greenpeace "Clicking Clean" 2017 report.

Denmark is becoming Northern Europe’s hub for data centres with a high prospective for growth for the tracking industries delivering solutions to the many data centres sprouting up all over the world.
