Discover the publicationThe global decline of biodiversity is one of the most pressing environmental challenges.
As we face an escalating global biodiversity crisis, it is becoming increasingly clear that we must take collaborative action to safeguard nature. Biodiversity is no longer just an environmental issue; it has become a critical business concern that influences long-term viability, resource availability and supply chain resilience. With nature and climate being two sides of the same coin, it is imperative that all corners of society recognise the value of integrating biodiversity considerations into their strategies and operations.
Bringing together decision-makers, companies, and biodiversity experts, COP16 will focus on reviewing progress since the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Held in Cali, Colombia, from 21 October to 1 November, COP16 offers a unique platform to advance global biodiversity goals, from aligning national strategies to developing fair and equitable mechanisms for sharing benefits from genetic resources.
With all key players at the table, COP16 is a critical opportunity to accelerate action and shape the future of biodiversity conservation.
The 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the Convention on Biological Diversity is set to be a landmark event for global biodiversity efforts. It will be the first biodiversity COP since the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework at COP15 in 2022. As governments gather, the primary focus will be on reviewing the implementation of this framework and ensuring that National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) are aligned with it.
COP16 will run from 21 October to 1 November in Cali, Colombia.
Among the key priorities will be advancing the monitoring framework and mobilising resources to support global biodiversity goals. Furthermore, discussions will centre around finalising a multilateral mechanism to ensure the fair and equitable sharing of benefits derived from the use of digital sequence information on genetic resources.
With a high-level ministerial segment included, COP16 offers a vital opportunity for global stakeholders to reflect on progress and drive forward solutions that protect the world’s ecosystems and biodiversity. This meeting is set to play a critical role in shaping the future of biodiversity conservation efforts worldwide.
There will not be a Danish Pavilion, scenes or a physical space. The initiative has the purpose of coordinating Danish interests to be able to present stronger messages and showcase the Danish tradition of public-private partnerships.
