Political action on climate “vital”, say Nordic and foreign investors en masse
13 institutional investors from Sweden, 10 from Denmark, three from Finland and one from Norway have banded together with 350 investors worldwide prior to a pair of key climate summits, to urge the world's governments to take political action, EnergyWatch reports. The two events are the G20 leaders' summit on 30 November - 1 December in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the COP24 climate change conference on 3-14 December in Katowice, Poland. Together, the signatories who are united under "The Investor Agenda" represent USD 30 trillion in assets.
Three key requests
The investors have signed a statement to governments calling on them to act in order to address climate change. The statement, containing three focal points for the heads of government, will be submitted to the upcoming climate summits. The investors call on global leaders to:
- Achieve the Paris Agreement’s goals
- Accelerate private sector investment into the low carbon transition
- Commit to improve climate-related financial reporting
"To build on this momentum and maintain investor confidence to further shift investment portfolios, it is vital that policy makers are firmly committed to achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement," the statement says.
