Hydratech Industries Wind Power has introduced a new approach to the pitch system design. The newly developed digital flow control unit (DFCU) is an alternative to the proportional valve used in the traditional system, and by using a combination of Normally Open and Normally Closed valves, the emergency stop function can be integrated.

The new digital flow control provides new features like variable speed, emergency stop, and the possibility to achieve a variable flow control by using a combination of orifice/valve sizes, similar to a 2-binary system. The benefit of digital hydraulic pitch is a continuous adaption to requirements in contrast to a stepwise. In addition the upscaling of capacity will have little effect on price.
