The secret of a sustainable indoor climate: University of Surrey applies intelligent natural ventilation

Built in 2015, the School of Veterinary Medicine at University of Surrey is UK’s first school for vets since 1965 and only the eighth of its kind in the country.

All the school buildings are designed to achieve BREEAM Very Good rating. Materials were selected accordingly and where possible they are A+ or A rated under the BRE Green Guide to Specification.

Each building employs a heat recovery system and natural ventilation is established in teaching rooms, teaching pods, open plan office spaces, cellular offices, meeting rooms and in the large central atrium. Almost 2500 m2 split into 53 ventilation zones in total.
