Challenge

Globally, food systems are responsible for 31% of greenhouse gas emissions. Agriculture is a major contributor through methane from livestock, nitrous oxide from soils, and energy-intensive food processing. At the same time, growing populations require more food, increasing pressure on land, resources, and ecosystems. Addressing this dual challenge – producing more food with fewer emissions – is critical to achieving global climate targets while ensuring food security.

Solution

Food Nation acts as a gateway to Danish know-how and solutions that reduce emissions across the value chain. In crop production, Danish farmers use precision farming and improved fertiliser strategies to optimise nutrient use and protect the environment. In livestock, advances in genetics, feed efficiency, and manure management help to lower methane emissions while supporting productivity. Biogas plants transform manure and organic waste into renewable energy, creating value from resources that would otherwise be lost. In food processing, Danish companies are adopting new technologies for heat recovery, electrification, and more efficient production methods. By showcasing such solutions, Food Nation connects international partners with approaches that combine sustainability and competitiveness

Result

By acting as a trusted gateway for solutions, Food Nation enables international stakeholders to adopt climate-positive practices that reduce emissions and support competitiveness. Precision farming optimises fertiliser use while maintaining yields, circular practices reduce waste and generate new value streams, and energy-efficient processing lowers production-related emissions. Together, these solutions benefit farmers, companies, and consumers by combining environmental progress with economic opportunities
