The world is facing a growing climate emergency marked by rising greenhouse gas emissions, increasing energy demand, and an urgent need to decarbonise societies without compromising economic development or social well-being. The just transition to low-carbon economies is complex, requiring not just new technologies but the integration of political will, private investment, and practical solutions that can be adapted across diverse geographies and sectors.
At the same time, countries around the world are under pressure to deliver on international climate commitments such as the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. However, many governments, cities, and businesses still struggle to identify and implement scalable solutions that reduce emissions, strengthen resilience, and drive green growth.
In this context, Denmark’s experience with combining ambitious climate policies, strong public-private collaboration, and exportable clean technologies offers practical value beyond its borders. But the challenge lies not only in developing and scaling green solutions – it also lies in connecting those solutions with the right stakeholders globally.
Founded in 2008 ahead of COP15 in Copenhagen, State of Green was established to create a shared focal point for the Danish green industry and to showcase its solutions internationally.
Since then, State of Green has developed into a key player in the Danish climate sector. With the House of Green showroom located in the heart of Copenhagen, we welcome more than 2,500 international guests annually, all eager to learn about Denmark’s green transition. This is backed up by a digital universe that serves as a one-stop shop to Denmark’s green sectors, providing a comprehensive catalogue for Danish green solutions.
Furthermore, State of Green has published over 30 publications on the Danish green expertise and knowledge, participated in numerous international events, and actively worked to highlight Danish green strengths in global media.
Today, State of Greens digital platform hosts information on more than 600 Danish green companies and organisations, offering thousands of tested solutions across clean energy, energy efficiency, energy distribution, hard-to-abate sectors, cities, agriculture and food systems, buildings, industry, transport, green finance, and much more.
State of Green also hosts around 200 international delegations each year, publishes publications, provides digital showcases and organises and attends international conferences, all in the hope that others will benefit from Denmark’s experiences with its green transition.
State of Green is a public-private, not-for-profit partnership between the Danish Government and the leading business organisations in Denmark. State of Greens founders consist of:
