Challenge

Romania’s renewable energy sector has faced a decade of limited development, highlighting the critical need for advanced, scalable technological solutions to meet rising demands for sustainable energy sources and combat climate change effectively.

Solution

Eurowind Energy is installing Romania’s largest wind turbines at the Pecineaga wind farm in Constanța County. Employing state-of-the-art Siemens Gamesa SG 6.6-170 turbines—with each turbine’s capacity reaching 6.6 MW and a total height of 220 meters – marking the first significant turbine order after the initial investment wave in the country’s renewable energy sector. This project highlights Denmark’s global leadership and technological excellence in wind energy.

Result

Upon completion in September 2025, this €79 million investment will generate approximately 176,000 MWh of clean electricity per year, capable of powering up to 48,000 Romanian households. Additionally, Eurowind Energy has signed a 12-year bilateral Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with Autoliv Romania, a leading automotive safety supplier. This VPPA agreement significantly enhances the project’s economic viability, contributing to corporate sustainability objectives and long-term energy security. The Pecineaga wind farm exemplifies sustainable Danish investment abroad, significantly advancing Romania’s renewable energy capabilities, driving economic benefits, and reinforcing Romania’s transition towards energy independence.
